Arrancars & Hollows
The Hollow-to-Arrancar path is VV: Ultimatum's evolution faction: instead of quest-givers or meditation gates, you literally eat your way up the food chain. A base hollow evolves by killing other hollows and eating them when defeated, becoming a Menos at around level 7 - video documentation (July 2026) pins the threshold to quests and XP, not eating alone. Along the way, kills can drop hollow traits - visible body modifications with attached stats that are only active in hollow form or while Resurreccion is popped, never in base Arrancar human form (a widely misunderstood rule, video-documented; see the Hollow Traits page for all 13 documented traits).
Your starting body matters too. Four base hollow types are freely available - Lizard (fast, weak defense), Centipede (greatly increased speed at the cost of defense and damage), Gorilla (all-round average) and Turtle (high defense, slower) - with two more locked behind Ascension prestige: Scorpion (speed plus a poison ability) and Crocodile (higher defense and a grab attack).
From Menos onward you can press L at any stage to become an Arrancar, but timing is the faction's defining decision. Evolving as a Menos (a 'Menoscar') gives minimal stats and only two hollow traits; an Adjucar gets three; a Vastocar gets four. Community documentation deeply discourages early evolution. Menos advance by destroying 60-70 objects (video sources conflict between 60 and 70 - possibly changed at release; trees count) and killing 8 hollows; Adjuchas gain a cero and roar plus a third trait slot, then grind 70 progress points toward Vasto Lorde in the quest 'Primal Urges Part 2'. The video-documented point table (July 2026): hollow kills 1 point, bosses 4, enemy-faction players 10 - the same player never counts twice, same-faction kills never count for anything, and mission NPCs count as kills, making low-class missions the fast route. A Vasto Lorde can hold four traits and should hunt (or refuse) traits until the set is right, because traits are permanent once you rip the mask - purple portals can remove hollow traits, but only BEFORE mask-ripping (video-documented). Evolving resets your stats but unlocks the Arrancar weapon. Players who evolved early can still bridge the gap with a Hollow Soul (3 Hogyoku Shards + 4 Dark Essences + 1 Soul Chain), which grants Vastocar status, a random fourth trait and Res weapon access.
As an Arrancar, awakening continues through meditation toward Resurreccion: a darker inner world, a 'Clearing the Fog' quest around Level 30+, red eyes to follow, and a three-stage Res fight against your own former hollow forms with no healthpacks (full guide on the How to Attain Res page). Arrancar weapons use the custom Zanpakuto system with nine documented types: Lance, Greataxe, Katana/Sword, Scythe, Hammer, Odachi/Longsword, Greatsword, Minigun and Spear - the Lance and Minigun being exclusive to this faction's list.
Ten Hollow clans roll at creation (Legendary 1%, Rare 9%, Uncommon 30%, Common 60%). The Legendaries transform you: Aaroniero changes your head into a jar (+2.2% Kido DMG, +5.0 Reiatsu, +1.5% Kido Defense, -1.5% Melee Defense), Cifer turns your skin completely white with +20% longer Resurreccion (+2.0% Kido DMG, +5.0 Reiatsu, +2.5 Shunpo Stamina), and Chelute gives +2.5% Weapon Damage, +5.0 Health, +1.0% Melee Defense. Rare: Jaegerjaquez (+3.0% Hakuda DMG, +3.0 Shunpo Stamina), Antenor (+1.5% Lightning DMG, +7.5% Posture Regen), Kufang (+2.5% Weapon DMG, +0.5% Kido Defense). Uncommon: Lousienbairn (+5.0 Health, +3.5 Posture), Gingerbuck (+2.0% Melee Defense, +5.0 Posture). Common: Murciellago (+5.0 Shunpo Stamina, +10.0 Shunpo Speed), Calius (+5.0 Equipment Load). The wardrobe offers 15 Arrancar sets at 300 Tokens each (Arrancar 11 is currently the same as Arrancar 10).

Why waiting for Vasto Lorde matters
Every stage lets you press L to become an Arrancar, but the trait count is locked by when you do it: two traits as a Menoscar, three as an Adjucar, four as a Vastocar. Traits cannot be changed after evolving - the purple portals that strip hollow traits only work BEFORE mask-ripping (video-documented) - and they are only active in hollow form or while Resurreccion is popped, never in base Arrancar form. So the community's standard advice is to reach Vasto Lorde, farm and refuse traits until you hold the four you want, and only then evolve. Evolving resets your stats and unlocks the Arrancar weapon.
If you evolved early, the Hollow Soul consumable (3 Hogyoku Shards, 4 Dark Essences, 1 Soul Chain) upgrades you to Vastocar, rolling a random fourth trait if you lack one and granting Res weapon access - power restored, but the fourth trait is random rather than chosen.

Community notes (Discord)
Menos-stage limitations (community-documented, 430-star post): a Menos cannot talk to NPCs (too tall), its physical hitbox sits at chest height (it gets stuck in narrow places and cannot pick up items from the ground), and without evolving you effectively stay locked to the Outskirts - further context for why the community discourages lingering at Menos.
Roar output (community-documented): the Hollow Roar temporarily raises your power to 111% - the same 111% output figure other community posts attribute to the universal aura pop. Little-known per a 128-star info post; pending in-game verification.
Vasto-stage ability unlocks (community-documented, 1,129-star post): Menos and Adjuchas have an innate cero, but a Vasto Lorde/Vastocar must unlock Cero (50 Kido), Bala (35 Kido) and Hierro (82 Kido) from the Kido line - consistent with video documentation that Hierro costs 82 Kido-line skill points (path: Bala > Cero > Cero Node > Hierro). A second post corroborates that Vastos lose the innate cero after Adjuchas.
Known issue (community-reported, two independent posts including a 764-star update thread): resetting your build/skills removes Roar entirely from a Vasto Lorde's kit. Reported June 2026; may be fixed in later patches.
Community-documented (June 2026): every hollow player shows the generic nametag "Hollow" instead of a username, so identifying (or reporting) a specific hollow player is effectively impossible unless they are the only hollow on the server.
Sourcing conflict on when hollow traits are active - two versions recorded, not resolved: video documentation (cited on the Arrancars & Hollows page) states traits work in hollow form or while Resurreccion is popped, while the Hollow Traits page and a 604-star Discord post (which asks for traits to be made active in hollow form, implying they currently are not) support the Res-only version. Both versions are kept with attribution (video-documented vs community report); pending in-game verification.
FAQ
When should a Hollow evolve into an Arrancar?
Ideally at Vasto Lorde, the last hollow stage - a Vastocar keeps four hollow traits versus three for an Adjucar and only two for a Menoscar, and traits cannot be changed after evolving. Early evolvers can use a Hollow Soul to upgrade to Vastocar later.
How does a Hollow reach Vasto Lorde?
Reach Menos at around level 7, destroy 60-70 objects and kill 8 hollows to reach Adjuchas, then earn 70 progress points in 'Primal Urges Part 2' - hollow kills give 1 point, bosses 4, enemy-faction players 10 (the same player never counts twice, and same-faction kills count for nothing). Mission NPCs count as kills, so low-class missions are the fast route (video-documented, July 2026).
What are the best Hollow clans?
The 1% Legendaries: Aaroniero (jar head, kido-focused), Cifer (white skin, +20% longer Resurreccion) and Chelute (+2.5% Weapon Damage, +5 Health, +1% Melee Defense).
