Gelum

verified 2026-07-09 · VV: Ultimatum bosses

Gelum is the tutorial boss of VV: Ultimatum, a Dark Souls-style knight fought at the very end of the tutorial with a high chance of dropping a Hogyoku Fragment plus the Committed Warrior title.

Gelum is the first real skill check in VV: Ultimatum - a knight-styled duelist waiting at the very end of the tutorial. The fight exists to teach the game's defensive language: his sword swings are slow with clear wind-ups built for parry practice, while red-glowing attacks cannot be parried and must be dodged - a rule that carries through every later boss in the game.

Community coverage agrees he is not a pushover for a tutorial encounter, but also that beating him is technically optional: the tutorial completes either way, and the Intelligence Extract quest item is granted on tutorial completion regardless of whether Gelum falls. What you give up by skipping him is the loot.

That loot is unusually good for minute one of the game: a high chance at a Hogyoku Fragment, the exclusive Committed Warrior title, and chest rewards drawn from a documented pool of over a dozen gear and cosmetic items - Sun Guard, Leather Strap, Doughy Scarf and Black Visor among them. Chest contents vary per player, so two Gelum kills will not pull identical items.

The practical read: fight him, stay close, and punish his recovery frames after each telegraphed swing. Learning his parry timing here pays off for the entire game.

How the fight works

Gelum fights like a souls-game knight: deliberate, heavily telegraphed sword swings with long wind-ups. The intended lesson is parry-on-reaction - hold your ground, read the wind-up, parry, then punish the recovery. His red-glowing attacks are the exception: they cannot be parried and must be dodged, and that color rule applies to every boss after him.

Because the tutorial (and the Intelligence Extract it awards) completes whether or not you win, some players skip the kill on reroll accounts. On a character you intend to keep, the Hogyoku Fragment chance and the exclusive title make the fight worth finishing.
