Praying Mantis

Legendary (1.0%)
verified 2026-07-11 · VV: Ultimatum elements

Praying Mantis is a Legendary Arrancar element in VV: Ultimatum, rolled at a 1.0% chance, built around chained Hunting Dash slashes and the form-locked slash torrent Holy Wailing.

Praying Mantis is one of the two Legendary Arrancar elements, a relentless dash-chaining kit. In Partial Resurreccion, Hunting Dash (Ctrl + M1) dashes forward and slashes the opponent - pressing M1 during the dash delivers the hit. In full Resurreccion the same move evolves: the dash flows into multiple slashes through repeated recasts, turning one input into an extended pressure string.

Holy Wailing (Ctrl + M2), locked to the form, opens with two slashes before releasing a torrent of follow-up cuts. The Damage upgrade line ties the two moves together: Level 2 lets Holy Wailing connect on crumpled opponents, and Level 8 allows the final Hunting Dash recast even outside the form - a rare case of a form-locked finisher leaking into base play.

The other upgrade lines reward aggression and precision. Reiatsu Efficiency ramps your damage when you chain M1 casts very quickly and partially refunds Reiatsu when those casts land. Perception widens your parry and block radius to 360 degrees while in mode and makes perfect parries refund more posture at all times. Praying Mantis currently has no variants per community documentation.

Partial Resurreccion moveset

Hunting Dash (Ctrl + M1) dashes forward and slashes your opponent - press M1 during the dash to deliver the strike.

Resurreccion

Hunting Dash (form version, Ctrl + M1) dashes before slashing multiple times through multiple recasts, extending the combo as long as you keep landing. Holy Wailing (Ctrl + M2, form locked) slashes twice before releasing a torrent of slashes.

Milestone upgrades

Reiatsu Efficiency: Level 5 ramps your damage when you chain M1 casts very quickly; Level 7 slightly refunds Reiatsu when your M1 casts land. Video documentation clarifies that 'M1 casts' here means the ability casts of the Hunting Dash chain, not normal weapon M1s.

Perception: Level 5 increases your parry/block radius to 360 degrees while in mode; Level 8 makes perfect parries refund more posture at all times.

Damage: Level 2 lets Holy Wailing hit crumpled opponents; Level 8 allows the final Hunting Dash recast without being in mode. (All milestones read off the in-game upgrade UI in video documentation.)

Video-documented details

The 360-degree parry is verified on camera: with Perception Level 5 in mode, attacks from directly behind can be parried or even blocked, and blocking completely negated the damage in the demonstration. Creators rate the Perception and Damage tracks far above Reiatsu Efficiency, whose Level 5 chaining bonus added only around 5 damage to a 49-54 hit in testing.

In its mode you grow four arms regardless of your equipped weapon - tested on camera by rerolling the weapon - with M1 animations changing while the heavy stays the same. Hunting Dash is not a grab: you must be close and press M1 during the dash, chaining roughly five hits through recasts in mode versus about two out of mode. Its lunge doubles as the kit's critical, and Holy Wailing knocks down and applies bleed.

Damage samples from a near-zero weapon-damage build (creator-observed, so values scale with ability rather than weapon): the Hunting Dash chain dealt around 100 damage in mode and about 50 out of mode (first tap roughly 22.5, later hits about 29), while Holy Wailing hit for 80-90 plus bleed. Praying Mantis was added in Update 1 as a Legendary Resurreccion.

Community notes (Discord)

Conflicting reports on the in-mode critical: a Discord post (263 stars) says entering Resurreccion replaces the equipped weapon's special critical with a generic four-armed res crit ("disappointing to get my weapon-special crit replaced"), while video documentation (Builderboy TV) reads the mode as changing M1 animations while the heavy stays the same. Both versions retained pending in-game verification.

Patch notes (official)

Update 1, 2026-06-21 - Praying Mantis was added as a new Arrancar race ability (official dev patch notes).

FAQ

How rare is Praying Mantis?

It rolls from the Legendary bracket of the Arrancar element pool at 1.0%, alongside Los Lobos.

What makes the Resurreccion version of Hunting Dash different?

In form, Hunting Dash chains into multiple slashes through repeated recasts instead of a single dash-slash, and Damage Level 8 later allows the final recast even outside the form.

Does Praying Mantis have variants?

No - community documentation currently lists no variants.

Does the 360-degree parry really work?

Yes - it is demonstrated on camera: with Perception Level 5 while in mode, attacks from directly behind were parried and blocked, with a block completely negating the damage. It only applies inside the mode.

How many M1 recasts does Praying Mantis have?

Dev-confirmed - Praying Mantis M1 has 2 recasts (3 presses total) in base, with an extra recast available in mode.
