Ascension System

verified 2026-07-18 · Anime Expeditions systems

Ascension in Anime Expeditions is a 3-level upgrade path exclusive to non-Shiny Mythic units, letting a player sacrifice duplicate copies of a unit, converted into elemental Sprites, to permanently raise that unit's Damage and Range beyond its base stat block.

Ascension only applies to units of Mythic rarity that are not Shiny, and it works by consuming duplicate copies of the exact same unit rather than a generic material. When a duplicate is sacrificed, it converts into elemental Sprites through the same conversion pipeline used by the evolution system, and those Sprites are what actually pay for each ascension level. The system caps at 3 levels total, each requiring 2 Legendary-tier Sprites to unlock.

Each level grants a specific, fixed stat bonus rather than a scaling multiplier: the first level adds 5% Damage, the second adds 5% Range, and the third adds a further 10% Damage. Stacked together, a fully ascended unit ends up with a permanent 15% Damage bonus and a 5% Range bonus compared to its un-ascended base form, which is a meaningful floor increase for a unit like Elf Mage or True Saint already being used as a primary damage dealer.

Because ascension consumes duplicates rather than generic currency, it directly competes with other duplicate-consuming systems in the game, most notably Fusing, which converts a spare unit into EXP for another unit instead of Sprites. A player pulling a second copy of a Mythic they are actively using has to decide whether that copy is more valuable ascended into permanent stats or fed for EXP, since the same duplicate cannot be spent both ways.

Why only Mythic, non-Shiny units

Shiny units are excluded from ascension entirely, which keeps Shiny variants valuable purely for their cosmetic rarity rather than turning them into a stat-optimal ascension fodder pool. Restricting ascension to Mythic rarity also means the system is reserved for units already at the top of the power curve, rather than letting early Rare or Epic pulls be permanently boosted past their intended power level.

Planning around duplicates

Since a duplicate can only be spent once, on ascension, fusing for EXP, or simply kept as a backup copy, the efficient path for a serious Mythic main is usually to prioritize ascension first while the unit is still being actively used, since the 15% Damage and 5% Range bonuses apply permanently and compound with every other multiplier the unit already has from Stat Potential, Traits, and equipment.

Level-by-level breakdown

Level 1 costs 2 Legendary-tier Sprites and adds a flat 5% Damage, giving the fastest and cheapest return since it only requires the entry-level Sprite tier. Level 2 costs another 2 Legendary-tier Sprites for a 5% Range bump, which matters most for units whose kit relies on hitting enemies earlier along the path rather than raw hit strength. Level 3 spends a final 2 Legendary-tier Sprites for a second Damage increase, this time 10%, pushing the unit's total gain to 15% Damage and 5% Range once all three levels are cleared.

Ascension vs. Stat Anvils

Ascension and Stat Anvils both touch Damage and Range, but they operate on completely different timelines. Ascension is a one-time, permanent account investment tied to a specific unit, while Stat Anvils are bought and lost within a single Expedition Mode run. A unit's ascended bonuses stay active in every game mode, whereas anvil bonuses only apply for as long as the current Expedition run lasts.

FAQ

How many ascension levels are there in Anime Expeditions?

Three. Each level requires 2 Legendary-tier elemental Sprites, produced by converting duplicate copies of the unit being ascended.

Can I ascend Shiny units?

No. Ascension is restricted to non-Shiny Mythic units only, so Shiny copies of a unit cannot be ascended or used as ascension fodder for the non-Shiny version.

What stats does ascension improve?

Damage and Range. Level 1 grants +5% Damage, level 2 grants +5% Range, and level 3 grants a further +10% Damage, for a combined +15% Damage and +5% Range at max level.

Should I ascend or fuse a duplicate Mythic unit?

If the duplicate belongs to a unit already in active use, ascension is generally the stronger long-term investment since its stat bonuses are permanent, while fusing simply grants a one-time chunk of EXP toward another unit's level.

How many duplicates do I need to fully ascend a unit?

Enough spare copies to produce 6 Legendary-tier Sprites total, 2 per level across all 3 levels, since duplicates convert into Sprites rather than being spent directly.

Does ascension work the same as Stat Anvils?

No. Ascension is a permanent, one-time upgrade to a specific unit's Damage and Range, while Stat Anvils are temporary bonuses bought inside Expedition Mode that reset at the end of each run.
